Job Summary

The Library of Congress Internships (LOCI) program is a seasonal, 10- or 12-week paid internship program that enables undergraduate, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain experience through applied learning and professional development opportunities that advance the academic and career pursuits of participants.

Key Responsibilities

The position description number for this position is 465642. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position. The Spring 2027 session of the Library of Congress Internships Program includes options for in-person, onsite project work. Interns hired under this announcement will be expected to commute to a Library of Congress facility in Washington, DC to conduct work.

This program offers undergraduate, graduate students and recent graduates insight into the environment and culture of the world's largest and most comprehensive repository of human knowledge. Interns will be exposed to a broad spectrum of library work: copyright, preservation, reference, access standards, and information management.

Near the end of their appointments at the Library, the interns join together to present their accomplishments and share their insights on the impact of their work. The assignments will span many professional fields at the Library, including collections support, communications, event planning, human capital, information technology, and research. Interns work with Library staff on mission-critical projects that utilize the interns' existing skills.

Interns are exposed to additional opportunities to expand their skills through special assignments, professional development training and workshops, mentoring, and other enrichment activities. Interns participate in a wide range of projects offered across the Library of Congress that are designed to challenge and strengthen the skills of emerging professionals and fulfill the mission and vision of the Library of Congress.

Requirements & Education

MUST be a U.S. Citizen currently enrolled at time of application in a degree-granting program of study at an accredited institution of higher learning (community college, college, university, or tribal college) at the undergraduate level or graduate level, OR have graduated or will graduate between January 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026.

Failure to provide this documentation in your application will result in disqualification. Certifications via Clearinghouse are acceptable to verify enrollment.

REQUIRED: A legible copy of your latest college/university transcripts OR official registrar documentation certifying enrollment in fall 2026.** Unofficial transcripts are acceptable at the time of application. Official transcripts will be required if selected for the position. Transcripts must be issued by the college or university, and must include your name, the name of the institution, and the courses and course dates.
