This posting seeks Paralegal Specialist applicants for our Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) Unit. The ACE unit is responsible for investigating and litigating affirmative civil fraud actions on behalf of the United States, including healthcare fraud, procurement fraud, and violations of the False Claims Act (FCA). You will be supporting Civil Division Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) throughout all phases of the civil litigation process.
At the full performance level, you will support AUSAs by providing a variety of legal assistance and office support services. If selected, you will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed. Duties include: Performs substantive legal research using a variety of research tools. Prepares draft legal and administrative pleadings and various other correspondence and legal documents.
Review and organize complex factual material and other documentary data related to affirmative civil enforcement. Utilize investigative tools to research allegations detailed in complaints or active investigations. Analyze large sets of data to identify trends and prepare concise summaries. Provides assistance with Civil Investigative Demands (CIDs) Interview witnesses and various individuals who can provide insight into cases under review.
Develop and enter various case material into a computer database/e-discovery platform. Prepare charts, graphs, and tables to illustrate results. Prepare, develop, compile, or maintain jury instructions in preparing for trial. Prepare exhibits for trial which typically involve a wide range of visual materials. Provide litigation case management and organize cases for court presentation.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Superior Academic Achievement is defined as follows: standing in the upper third of your graduating class or major subdivision, OR membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies, OR obtaining a sufficient grade point average, defined as the following.
Applicants must have a grade point average of: (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
