THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
This position is located within TASMG Projects and may be extended or terminated at the discretion of the TASMG Commander. JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, modify and test aircraft engines within the Aviation Classification and Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD).
The AVCRAD is an industrial facility that provides sustainment base maintenance in support of regional Army National Guard (ARNG) Aviation assets and supports field maintenance in accordance with ARNG Aviation priorities. The AVCRAD maintenance activities ensure aircraft of the region are ready and available to support Federal and State missions.
In addition, the AVCRAD performs National Maintenance Program (NMP) repair of rotary wing aircraft and components, limited depot airframe repair, aircraft painting, major airframe repair, depot-level component repair, and component repair and management, as directed by Army Materiel Command (AMC), and prioritized by the National Guard Bureau (NGB). This position performs maintenance, removal, installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair and testing of aircraft engines.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctioning engines utilizing all available test equipment to determine degree of disassembly, repair, modification, and adjustment needed. Performs periodic and special inspections on engines.
Performs engine trim in accordance with applicable directives. Evaluates justification documentation for unsatisfactory item reports and practicality of proposed modification requests. Removes and disassembles aircraft engines in order to perform necessary maintenance. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors and outdoors in inclement weather and on icy, wet, and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces, work stands and engine test stands.
Subject to hazards from toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids such as aviation fuels, lubricants, hydraulic fluids, high levels of noise and blast from turbine, turbo-prop engines, and auxiliary power units. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds or over.
No substitution of education for specialized experience.
