Job Summary

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

Key Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) section Small Shop Chief no more than 25% of the time over journey level mechanics that test, troubleshoot, repair and modify aircraft pneudraulic systems and to provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth therein. DUTIES: 1. Performs small shop chief duties over the journey level mechanics in the section no more than 25% of the time.

Responsible for the internal scheduling of work within the work center and plans daily work of subordinates. Also plans work schedules for reservists assigned to the function to ensure exposure to full range of journeyman duties of the trade. 2. Receives work document (s) or oral instructions regarding problem (s) with aircraft fuel system.

By applying external power source (s) or during run-up of aircraft observes gauges, meters, and other indicators on test equipment or in aircraft to determine flow or quantity or fuel through the various components of the fuel system. 3.

After test and repair of component (s) is completed or the determination made that replacement is required, installs said component (or replacement) in aircraft and reinstalls all items/components making necessary tests, adjustments, calibrations and inspections as necessary during the reinstallation process. 4.

Troubleshoots integral; fuel tanks, using leak path analysis and other res procedures such as pressure checks, vacuum checks, dye injection checks, helium and argon gas checks, etc., to determine the source of fuel leaks. Troubleshoots fuel cells to determine location of leaks. After de-fueling, removes tank access door and conducts purging operation using approved equipment. 5.

Utilizes safety practices and procedures and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies. Controls tools. Ensures tools are properly marked, calibrated (if necessary), and are secured when area is unattended. Certifies work produced under USAF Technical Order Program. As required, verifies and certifies work processes and procedures of certified coworkers and trainees and adequacy of work accomplished.
