THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
This position is located within TASMG Projects and may be extended or terminated at the discretion of the TASMG Commander. JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the position is to ensure aircraft of the region are ready and available to support Federal and State missions.
In addition, the AVCRAD/TASMG performs National Maintenance Program (NMP) repair of rotary wing aircraft and components, limited depot airframe repair, aircraft painting, major airframe repair, depot-level component repair, and component repair and management, as directed by Army Materiel Command (AMC), and prioritized by the National Guard Bureau (NGB). NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Tests and troubleshoots aircraft rotor and/or propeller systems using special tools and test equipment. Performs troubleshooting of the powertrain systems using special tools and test equipment, diagnoses any system malfunctions and makes necessary repairs.
Subjects rotor, propeller, and powertrain parts to a variety of nondestructive testing to identify imperfections not otherwise detected. Utilizing power hoists, special slings and balancing equipment, aligns and balances assembled propellers/rotor blades by making appropriate linkage adjustments and by making both chordwise and spanwise weight adjustments to bring blades into true balance.
After assembly or installation of the blade systems on the aircraft, makes final adjustments to balance, track, eliminate vibrations and ensure proper revolutions per minute (RPM) by checking blade track utilizing special tracking equipment and making weight, trim tab, and control linkage adjustments. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in hanger areas, outdoors, in parked aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas.
They often must work in confined spaces and in awkward positions. Dirt, dust, grease, and aircraft fluids are common in the work place. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion when climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts heavy equipment and components weighing up to 50 pounds.
Hoists, hand trucks, balancing equipment, lifts, and other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items.
No substitution of education for specialized experience.
