This AIRMAN AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST is located in the Force Support Squadron, Mission Support Group of an Air National Guard Wing and is part of the CA 129 RQW.
THIS IS A T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, INDEFINITE POSITION Indefinite appointment cannot exceed 5 years. Selectee may be non-competitively converted to permanent status if/when funding becomes available or position becomes unencumbered. The primary purpose of the AIRMAN AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST, GS-0301-9, is to serve as the family readiness and support services representative at an ANG Wing and coordinate concurrently with the Force Support Squadron. Commander/Human Resource Officer (Director of Personnel (DP)) at each wing, Joint Force Headquarters - State (JFHQ-ST) Family Program Director, NGB Family Programs Office, and US Air Force/Major Command (MAJCOM) Family Readiness Directors. Identifies Wing family needs and concerns and presents appropriate plans, and recommendations to facilitate family readiness and support decisions. Ensures all recommendations are in accordance with applicable guidelines, policies, and regulations. Provides advice and assistance to the unit leadership in identifying and addressing family issues and demographic trends, which impact mission readiness and retention. Assess customer interactions and documents all service related customer and community activities in AFFIRST. Uses formal and informal needs assessment to ensure long term proactive/reactive programs are available. Identifies service member and family issues that require exploration, development, and resolutions, and determines appropriate methods and resources. Provides advice and assistance to the unit leadership in identifying and addressing family issues and demographic trends, which impact mission readiness and retention. Conducts briefings and training for family members and volunteers. Attends staff meetings as required or at least monthly to report on family readiness and support program status and concerns, as well as special upcoming programs and events. The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military. In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force. May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance.
Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
