Job Summary

The Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer (AHHO), Environmental Management (EMS), serves as a full deputy to the Hospital Housekeeping Officer and is responsible for the planning, organization, staffing, controlling, evaluation, and directing the environmental management functions of a total EMS operation of this 124-bed Health Care Facility. The AHHO is directly responsible for EMS duties related to Truman VA Hospital and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics.

Key Responsibilities

Major duties include but are not limited to: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes. Holds self and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results. Determines objectives, sets priorities, and delegates work.

Accepts responsibility for mistakes. Complies with established control systems and rules. Inspires, motivates, and guides others toward goal accomplishment; coaches, mentors, and challenges subordinates; adapts leadership styles to a variety of situations; models high standards of honesty, integrity, trust, openness, and respect for the individual by applying these values to daily behaviors.

Knowledge of the principles and methods for developing an integrated acquisition management plan that describes the business, technical, and support strategies, including the relationship between the acquisition phases, work efforts, and key program events (for example, decision points, contract awards, test activities). Plans for and directs the provision of housekeeping services for the hospital facility in association with the Chief, EMS.

Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Develops and maintains effective inter-service and inter-personal relationships with other key staff officials and coordinates the program with other internal activities.

Assists in the direction and maintenance of a system of reports and records which reflect the status of equipment, supplies, and materials, operational needs, and adjustments, as well as a variety of personnel and workload reports inclusive of personnel actions. Assists the HHO in purchasing, issuing, replacing, and processing uniforms. Assists the HHO in the development of a total integrated pest management plan.

Physical aspects associated with work required of this assignment are typical for the occupation and would generally not require a pre-placement examination.
