Join at at the Hampton VAMC as an Assistant Nurse Manager! The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Managerwith supervisory duties and responsibility and accountability for the 24/7 operations of the Inpatient Mental Health unit. They provide coverage for other ANMs as needed. The ANM has responsibility and accountability for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and provides input into the evaluation of individual staff performance.
Duties: Enhances care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. Participates in the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Plans and delivers technically competent care to patients in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice. Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks ensuring assigned delegated tasks are completed by team members. Manages nursing care of patients, organizes, and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner, assisting team members as necessary. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary care. Establishes a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to achieve optimal function through assessment and treatment of their health enhancing the patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety. Treats all patients, families, and other caregivers with dignity and respect incorporating knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination. Recognizes ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and follows established policies of the practice setting, VA, and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses. Applies high reliability principles and I CARE values to improve patient outcomes. Demonstrates the ability to communicate confidently with members of the healthcare team and demonstrate professional behaviors that promotes cooperation and teamwork. Shares knowledge and creates opportunities for collaboration that encourage team cohesiveness. Uses available resources and sound clinical judgement to achieve results. Demonstrates professional behavior and works effectively with others, builds on strengths, and takes positive action to meet growing responsibilities. Preferred Experience as Follows: 5 yrs mental health and/or geriatric experience. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete-annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, Basic Life Support (BLS)/Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI), Prevention, Management of Disruptive Behaviors (PMDB), and Therapeutic Containment trainings as a condition of employment.
