Job Summary

Many Assistant U.S. Attorney positions located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Positions may be filled in the Criminal, Civil, and Appellate Divisions. Key Responsibilities

AUSAs have the opportunity to represent the interests of the United States of America in the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. In performing this important public service, AUSAS exercise significant responsibility over their own cases in a very busy district. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication.

This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. The Criminal Division prosecutes a wide range of federal cases including drug trafficking, fraud, public corruption, child exploitation, immigration, and violent crimes. The Civil Division litigates a variety of federal cases involving affirmative fraud, defensive litigation, and bankruptcy.

Appellate Division AUSAS draft the government's brief and present oral arguments before the First Circuit. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.

In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.
