This Senior Executive Service (SES) position is in the Office of Workforce Development & Maritime Education, Maritime Administration (MARAD) that is responsible for the development, administration, and implementation of programs supporting the Maritime Administration's mandates to train, develop, and sustain a highly qualified maritime industry workforce, encompassing merchant mariners, port personnel, and shipyard workers.
The AA will: Advise and consult with the Maritime Administrator on far-reaching policies regarding MARAD's support, promotion, and development of maritime education and technical training to meet national economic and security needs for trained merchant mariners, skilled port operations personnel, and a robust shipyard workforce.
Establish credentialing, trade and vocational apprenticeships, and flexible career pipeline frameworks to accelerate the adoption of new technologies and optimize workforce productivity. Coordinate and maintain close liaison with major maritime labor organizations, shipyard operators, port authorities, ship managers, U.S. and international regulatory bodies, and professional maritime associations.
Represent and speak for the Maritime Administrator at professional meetings and at conferences with top level government and industry officials concerning matters within areas of program responsibility. Oversee The Office of Maritime Labor and Training's (OMLT) maritime education, training, and workforce initiatives at the primary, secondary, trade/vocational, and continuing educational levels.
