Job Summary

This position is located at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Response and Recovery, Response Directorate, Disaster Emergency Communication Division, Bothell MERS Detachment in Bothell, Washington. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience performing maintenance on heavy-duty diesel trucks and tractors, SUV's, Vans, and Light to Mid-weight Pickup Trucks.

MERS positions are in the excepted service. Employees will not acquire civil service status but will have standard and optional benefits.

EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions. In this position, you will work as a Automotive Mechanic (Diesel) responsible for providing support for the FEMA Response Directorate.

Typical duties include: Maintaining the detachment's fleet of vehicles consisting of SUV,s Vans, Cargo Trucks and Tractors. All requiring quarterly, and annual preventative maintenance (PM) or inspections. Maintaining a set of tools required to maintenance the fleet. To include ordering new or replacement tools, meters and diagnostics tools needed to maintain the fleet. Use own initiative to determine what tools are required.

Performing scheduled PM's on all vehicles and equipment by following standard checklists, reference manuals, and schedules. Change oil and filters when required, to ensure all vehicles are fully mission capable (FMC). Seeking out ways to improve working area, equipment and ensuring assigned vehicles are always maintained in a high state of readiness.

Using initiative to ensure safety is adhered to; maintenance checks are performed and upkeep of all areas of responsibility is maintained in a clean and orderly manner. Troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines, including fuel injection systems, turbochargers, cooling systems, lubrication systems, intake and exhaust systems, and associated components.
