Serving as a Automotive Mechanic WG-5823-10 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Mobile Assets Branch (MAB), Training Support Division (TSD) under the Mission and Readiness Support Directorate (MRSD) and located in Glynco, Georgia.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide fleet management and a wide variety of organization-owned and government-leased vehicles and equipment. These assets are used to train students in a wide variety of driving techniques such as high-speed pursuit, skids, anti-terrorist evasion techniques, surveillance, investigations, marine operations, etc. This position serves as an Automotive Mechanic responsible for servicing government-leased vehicles for FLETC.
Typical duties include: Locating worn or poorly adjusted parts through visual and auditory checks and using a variety of test equipment such as diagnostic computers, test lamps, timing lights, multi-meters, tachometers, and well meters. Making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, adjusting, or cleaning defective parts or components.
The position replaces sensors, water pumps, spark plugs, brake shoes, mufflers, radiator caps, condensers, engine gaskets, a variety of belts and hoses, and complete assemblies such as removing old engines and replacing them with new engines. Interacting with customers upon initial turn-in of vehicles and equipment. Receiving work requests and initiating work orders. Performing vehicle pre-inspections to verify/diagnose customer complaints.
Assisting higher grade mechanics in fabricating interconnected systems which allow vehicles to conduct high speed pursuit, side torque and revolutions per minute (rpm), and increased gravitational pressures along with anti-terrorist techniques.
