This position is located at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida. The primary purpose of the job is to perform maintenance and repair work on a variety of automotive, engineering, and grounds equipment. ***A recruitment incentive may be authorized for highly qualified candidates.***
The incumbent performs maintenance and repairs to vehicles and equipment that are not considered heavy duty vehicles/equipment, such as, but not limited to: combustion-powered automotive vehicles, farm tractors, forklifts, sensors, water pumps, spark plugs, brake shoes, engine gaskets etc. While performing maintenance and repairs on a variety of equipment, the incumbent: Determines when parts should be cleaned, reinstalled or replaced as needed for the repair or replacement of assemblies and subassemblies of equipment to include tractors with attachments, dump trucks, pickup trucks, SUVs, forklifts, trailers, compressors, and a variety of makes and models of lawn mowers, push mowers, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, etc. Diagnose equipment through visual, auditory checks, test equipment, and/or vehicle on-board computers as necessary to determine repair capabilities and parts requirements. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.
