Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager (NM) functions as a clinical expert and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components.

Key Responsibilities

Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and creating innovative process improvement initiatives. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs.

The NM will have direct oversight of all staff performance, competencies, and practices, ensuring quality patient outcomes. He/she has expertise in the field of Mental Health and all related programs. He/she initiates and maintains databases, prepares reports, and works collaboratively with others to assess staffing variance and project staffing needs.

He/she facilitates recommendations for systems redesign and/or resource changes that will serve to improve the workforce and resource utilization. The NM is responsible for the assessment of nursing sensitive indicators and patient flow for the purpose of maximizing utilization of resources to enhance and improve patient care. Ensures timely proficiency, evaluations and competency assessment is completed on each nursing employee annually.

Reviews EPRP, VSSC, SAIL, HEDIS performance measures, and other data for trends and provides early intervention for successful patient care as demonstrated by outcome data. The Nurse Manager formulates follow - up plans to assure compliance with regulatory policies and agencies, participates on quality improvement committees with Chief Nurse, Nurse Executive Team, Nurse Managers, the service, and the medical center.

The NM provides leadership and direct supervision of staff, various shifts and days of operation and addresses, plans, evaluates and/or interfaces with the processes and daily operations.
