Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status and will be for a period not-to-exceed 1560 hours in a service year.
Performs the full range of aid type duties and a variety of technical duties in support of wildlife programs. Serves as crewmember and occasionally crew lead for specific projects.
Performs the following or duties of similar complexity: Performs on-the-ground inventories of wildlife and their habitat, analyzes the data and reports the findings; determines factors such as occupancy and fate of reproductive efforts for selected sites, feed habits, mortality, success of growth, and adult and young behavior. Performs on-the-ground surveys of wildlife habitat and prepares reports and makes recommendations to management on the findings.
Compiles and organizes survey data and prepares narratives and reports. Enters and retrieves data from automated databases. Uses, maintains, and calibrates specialized field equipment including GPS units, data loggers, remote cameras and telemetry gear to ensure accurate data capture during wildlife monitoring projects. Plans, aids in designing, and lays out projects for wildlife habitat improvement.
Determines likely impacts of minerals exploration, development, and operation, realty actions, recreational activities, forestry and range development or improvement projects on wildlife and their habitat. Will provide information and prepare preliminary analysis of impacts on wildlife for inclusion in environmental documents.
Conducts compliance checks on minerals exploration, development, and operations, realty actions, and range improvement projects to evaluate impacts and assure conformation with mitigation measures; confers with offending party to resolve nonconformance situations. Reviews forestry, watershed, and rangeland projects for compatibility with wildlife needs and recommends construction specifications or modifications to protect or improve habitat.
Applicants may qualify for these positions based on experience, education, or an equivalent combination as described in the Qualifications section of this announcement. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-05 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-07.
One year of full time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
