This position is for a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) within a Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) department located at Milwaukee VA Medical Center. The position works in support of the medical equipment management program which troubleshoots and performs planned maintenance on medical devices and clinical systems.
Provides technical support for a wide variety of highly sophisticated and complex biomedical equipment and instrumentation systems including advanced analog, digital, microprocessor, computer-based electronics with many interrelated subassemblies, data network attached devices, and system servers; troubleshoots, diagnoses. and remedies user issues, equipment failure, and network interface problems.
Performs preventive maintenance on equipment following manufacturers recommendations; ensures warranties and service contracts are honored. Maintains equipment history and recommends replacement when the equipment is too costly to maintain/repair or no longer supported by the vendor. Analyzes equipment problems determining whether the problem is caused by user error, equipment failure, or connectivity, compatibility, or communications issues.
Coordinates installation, verifies that the equipment meets contract specifications, and performs initial test of operability. Provides technical advice and assistance to clinical staff on equipment potential, modification, and tailoring to specific clinical needs; provides training and assistance in operating equipment properly and identifying problems caused by user error.
