Job Summary

This vacancy is for aWG-4607-9, Carpenter located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FACILITY NEW ORLEANS in NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana.

Key Responsibilities

You will serve as a Carpenter and be responsible for performing a variety of work in the construction, alteration, and repair of building structures, fittings, panels, partitions, and other articles made of wood or wood substitutes.

Your duties will also include repairing damaged plastic boat hulls by preparing and applying fiberglass patches to restore their original contour and strength and, you will be tasked with independently planning and executing projects from the initial layout stage through to final assembly and installation. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Assembling cabinetry and fixtures using precision joinery (miters and rabbets) and bonding wood pieces, veneers, and countertops with industrial adhesives. Building, repairing, altering, laying out, and erecting essential structural components and frameworks, including sills, beams, corner posts, ridge poles, and trusses. Fabricating and repairing wood articles such as benches, tables, lockers, custom shipment boxes, roofing, and cases.

Performing work based on work orders or oral instructions, estimate jobs to determine the methods, techniques, devices, hours, and materials needed. Removing and installing insulation, windows, foam fender rails, and related shipboard accessories.
