Job Summary

This position is located at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

Key Responsibilities

Incumbent will be responsible for daily gravesite assignments based on interment scheduling. Incumbent will verify interments for accuracy and immediately report and/or rectify any potentially negative situations. Incumbent will be responsible for training employees on interment operations. Incumbent will be first line supervisor of all employees under the Interments section of the organizational chart. Incumbent will supervise all authorized disinterments.

Incumbent works closely with office staff to order, receive, inspect, and enter data for all headstones and markers. Assists organizations in the placement of memorial monuments that are donated. Primary point of contact for volunteers. Work schedule: This incumbent is required to work Monday through Friday and occasional weekends depending on operational needs.

Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery.
