The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in administering various programs for mitigation hazards, including earthquake, flood and tornado, is familiar with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), and has utilized benefit-cost analyst tools.
What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as a Civil Engineer within the Region 1 office. Typical assignments include: Providing comprehensive expert technical direction to internal and external stakeholders related to flood risk studies, FEMA's Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (MAP) Program, and Flood Insurance Rate Map creation, maintenance, and update.
Providing comprehensive technical, administrative, and GIS advice and assistance on matters related to the Risk MAP program, including defending controversial findings in public or high-level forums. Ensuring conformance with FEMA mapping standards and recommends modifications. Performing project management duties including ensuring documentation management, the appropriate method for conducting a study is chosen, and the costs associated with studies is monitored.
Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
