Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties include, but are not limited to: Perform, advise on, or supervise clinical laboratory testing of human blood, urine, and other body fluids or tissues. Interpret and apply complex written instructions. Use independent technical judgment to analyze and interpret laboratory results. Use manual and automated techniques to confirm test results. Develop data that physicians may use to determine the presence and extent of disease.

Teach basic theory, technical skills, and application of laboratory test procedures or equipment. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory equipment. Obtain blood samples by venipuncture or dermal puncture; prepares the samples for analysis. Ensure that proper specimens are obtained, and physiological properties and test requirements are maintained until the actual testing is performed.

Monitor the performance of various tests and quality control reagents according to written procedures. Recognize critical (panic) values and reports values to the clinical staff in a timely fashion; handles STAT specimens in accordance with laboratory policies. Perform additional testing as appropriate to confirm abnormal results when necessary, according to established guidelines; documents reporting of all called values.

Maintain appropriate records consisting of specimen accessioning, instrument maintenance, problems, and other data as appropriate. Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 6:30 pm or 7:00 am to 5:30 pm, 40 hours per week, occasional weekends, rotating holidays. Tour will be determined at the time of selection.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
