Job Summary

This vacancy is for a GS - 0080 - 11, Command Security Officer located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR COLUMBIA RIVER COMMAND CADRE in PORTLAND, Oregon.

Key Responsibilities

You will serve as a Command Security Officer and be responsible for overseeing unit security programs and advising providing security policy to each Commanding Officer. Your role will include managing resources involved with physical security and facility access.

In addition, you will act as a liaison with other federal, state, and local law enforcement officials, and manage all new or updated security clearance requirements Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Overseeing the creation and maintenance of Unit Security Plan involving physical security and facility access.

Plans include Physical Security, Anti-terrorism/force protection; Bomb Threats; Arms, Ammunition and Explosives; Active Shooter; Information Security; Visitor access; Facility Access, and Loss Prevention. Evaluating the effectiveness of existing security practices and policies and updating them on an annual basis. Recommending the type of force protection, conditions and controls needed; and ensuring that personnel are adhering to established policies and procedures.

Recommending when a threat dictates or during special events the use of additional protective forces, guards, and detection dogs to identify, reduce eliminate, or neutralize criminal activity. Conducting unit visits and annual security assessments and providing onsite training. Working closely with all Assistant Command Security Officers (ACSO) to verify and maintain a healthy Personnel Security (PERSEC) account.

This position does not have a positive education requirement.
