Job Summary

Become a Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) Agent and help Veterans with severe disabilities gain greater independence at home. You'll manage meaningful construction and adaptation projects from start to finish, turning accessibility needs into practical solutions. Key Responsibilities

SAH Agent responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Conduct interviews with Veterans to establish expectations; assess existing or proposed living conditions; evaluate accessibility needs; provide guidance on program eligibility, requirements, and adaptive housing options.

This position is responsible for assisting Veterans or their representatives by providing VA grant program information via electronic delivery or phone systems and maintaining excellent customer service.

Review plans, specifications, and proposals; recommend appropriate adaptive features; ensure accessibility solutions align with program requirements, regulatory standards, and universal design principles; collaborate with contractors and architects to develop compliant construction documents.

Coordinate with contractors, architects, and other stakeholders during bidding and early planning; ensure bids reflect Veteran-specific accessibility needs and meet program compliance; facilitate communication among parties prior to project initiation. Validate administrative and statutory program requirements; review, maintain, and document eligibility determinations; ensure complete and accurate records; prepare documentation that informs grant approval decisions.

Serve as the primary project manager; oversee construction progress; ensure work conforms to approved accessibility solutions and VA Minimum Property Requirements (MPRs); monitor timelines, quality, and budget alignment through project completion and closeout.

Review and negotiate construction change orders; resolve disputes between Veterans and contractors; address construction deficiencies or unexpected conditions; facilitate consensus and maintain progress toward project completion.

Conduct cost analyses relative to market conditions; create milestone-based payment schedules; review financial documents to ensure proper disbursement, lien protection, and cost justification; support grant fund management throughout the project lifecycle.

Review construction documents, inspection reports, correspondence, and financial materials; maintain complete, accurate, and timely electronic case files from application through final accounting; ensure all required documents are captured and compliant.

Serve as primary point of contact for Veterans, contractors, architects, local agencies, and congressional inquiries; communicate program requirements; represent SAH/Special Home Adaptations (SHA) and Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E) programs at outreach events; ensure stakeholders are informed of progress and decisions. Work Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Compressed/Flexible: Available.

Telework: This position is eligible for situational (ad hoc) telework only. The selectee is required to report to the official duty station each scheduled workday. Telework may be approved only on a case-by-case basis with supervisory approval. Routine or recurring telework is not authorized for this position. Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
