This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park in Copper Center, AK. As a Cultural Anthropologist, this position provides professional staff assistance to management in the development, review, analysis, evaluation, and monitoring of programs in applied cultural anthropology/ethnography in the park or a related group of parks.
At the full performance level (GS-11) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Oversees the Park Unit's subsistence program and researches issues of ethnographic importance to Native Alaskan communities such as hunting, fishing and gathering from park lands. Represents the superintendent when working with the public and other organizations / agencies on matters related to rural communities and ethnographic / subsistence resources. Identifies contemporary groups with traditional associations to park resources, establishes contacts and consults with them. Organizes and facilitates Subsistence Resource Commission meetings for park lands.
