This Dental Assistant position is located at the Orlando VA Healthcare System. The Dental Assistant assists the dentist in many aspects of direct patient care and performs other clinical and clerical functions independently of direct supervision.
Duties include but are not limited to: Provides assistance to customer with questions or concerns, provides service recovery. Sets up operatory, surgery suite, and/or Operating Room for planned dental procedure and cleans dental unit for timely turnover. Passes instruments safely, accurately, and efficiently. Keeps operative field clear of debris and retracts oral tissues effectively and comfortably. Prepares dental medicaments and impression materials per manufacturer's instructions. Accomplishes all intra-operative procedures within standard infection control protocols. Assists in routine general dental procedures. Full competency and assists in specialized dental procedures, Oral maxillofacial surgery, implantology, periodontics, prosthodontics, and operating room dental assisting. Adequately prepares the operating room for scheduled procedure. Correctly maintains sterile field. Accurately maintains needle and sponge counts and verifies count with circulator. Accurately maintains record of medication amounts and irrigation amounts utilized during the surgical procedure. Appropriately labels all medications within the surgical field. Appropriately tracks implants placed in the operating room. Assists patients in scheduling appointments. Assists in filling gaps in the doctor's schedule due to late cancellations and failed appointments. Assists dentist in charting findings and treatment plans in patient records.
