This position serves as the Deputy Director of the Office of Intelligence, Security, and Emergency Response. The mission of the office is to advise the Secretary on domestic and international intelligence security matters; coordinate the Departments departmental-level preparedness, prevention, and response efforts to natural disasters, emergencies, and attacks.
The Deputy Director of the Office of Intelligence coordinates the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans, information management systems and integrated research and development programs affecting the security of the traveling public and of cargo; and to be the focal point in the Department of Transportation intelligence and security policy. This position is a major policy position within the department and interacts with the highest levels of government across agency and departmental lines and with public and private agencies and organizations involved in intelligence, security, transportation, and research and development. As the Deputy Director, you will: • Plan, manage, coordinate, and direct the various programs, functions and activities of the Office and its constituent Divisions and Staff. • Direct office budget preparation, formulation, and execution. Supervise the development of all budget documentation and ensures the efficient, compliant obligation of government funds, including Operating Administration (OA) resources dedicated to intelligence, security, and emergency preparedness. • Serve as a key member of the Department's senior emergency transportation planning staff, participating with the Director and other staff members of the office in developing Department-wide policies, plans, procedures, systems, and programs designed to carry out the Secretary's statutory and administrative responsibilities under various public laws and executive orders, and the National Response Framework. • Represent the Director, the Department, and operating administration before governmental committees, at meetings and conferences involving other Federal agencies, state agencies, industry, and professional groups. • Maintain a state of personal readiness to assume emergency duties at any time in response to actual or exercise alerts and to move, upon direction, to remote operating facilities as provided in current preparedness plans of the Department.
