The incumbent will serve as a staff Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist for Community Care Service. They will also be responsible for the coordination and/or review of multiple radiological modalities for consideration of community care outside of the Veterans Health Administration.
Major duties include, but are not limited to: Performs radiographic procedures using proper exposure techniques, including use of formula for determining technical factors, how to control density, contrast and distortion, theory, manual and photo timed exposures, wall, and table buckies, collimators, filters, grids, and other technical aids to produce radiographs of high diagnostic quality with the minimum of retakes.
Responsible to have explain exams to patients so they understand what is to be done, allowing patients to ask questions prior to exam, as well as any risks ensuring proper patient consent.
May be required by procedure or patient's condition to monitor vital signs, recognize allergic reactions, seizures, cardiac arrest, or other medical conditions requiring immediate attention and be able to initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation, artificial respiration, and operation of a defibrillator. Performs exams with the use of portable equipment as well as stationary radiographic units.
Prepares contrast material under direction of the radiologist for the purpose of performing fluoroscopy or radiographic exams requiring injectable solutions such as IVP, cystogram, cholangiograms, fistulagrams and arthrography and for the purpose of performing oral or rectal exams of the GI tract. Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients.
Edits orders and registers patients in the system as well as completes the work list management portion of the hospital information system and interface. Places consults, referrals and correct orders as needed to ensure timely and accurate care. Possesses a foundation of administrative duties, principles, concepts, office procedures, techniques, and practices.
Ensures Radiology records are uploaded into the appropriate location in the electronic health record after complete reports are received. Collaborates with outside Radiology staff as needed to assist in getting correct exams, CPT codes and updated orders as needed. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 0730-1600.
