The regular and recurring duties of the journeyman electrician assigned to the Electrical Section of Engineering Service are performed at the Columbus VA. This position reports to the Electrical Supervisor.
New construction, renovation/repair, installation, maintenance, and repair of hospital, personal and building service equipment and includes troubleshooting, loading and testing new and existing electrical/electronic equipment, repairing the electrical/electronic equipment segments of air conditioning and ventilating systems, communication systems, fire alarm systems, emergency power plants, all types and sizes of electric motor and electrical/electronic controls. Has a greater knowledge of how various electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls are installed, operate, and work together to support industrial operations, computer complexes, or similar complex electrical loads. Plans and lays out work, traces hard to locate defects or problems and completes repairs and installations with little or no advice. Frequently lift and carry, unassisted, items weighing up 40 lbs. They are sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 lbs. with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping.
