The incumbent serves as an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic (EICM) assigned to the CEP at the Orlando VA.
The position provides advanced repairs, installations, troubleshooting, calibration, configuration and functional testing of high-pressure steam boilers, chillers, cooling towers, emergency power generators and the electronic and industrial control systems that monitor and control the CEP steam production, utility power production, and chill water distribution systems.
Performs advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, programming, tuning, and repair of Building Automation Systems (BAS/Metasys), PLC based control panels, DOC systems, field controllers, HMl/graphics points, alarm/trend configurations, communications links, and device addressing for all CEP associated equipment including boilers, chillers, generators, cooling towers, pumps, and distribution systems.
Verifies integrity of control logic, sequences of operation, setpoints, PIO tuning, and alarm thresholds; restores controls functionality and validates normal operation through trend analysis, loop checks, interlock testing, and live functional testing. Monitors plant performance using BAS, local panels, and field rounds to identify abnormalities, initiate corrective actions, and ensure safe, continuous steam, chilled water, and power generation.
Exercises independent authority to modify control sequences, override system parameters, and start/stop plant equipment to maintain stable operations. Provides technical direction for fuel controls, boiler controls, chilled water controls, and instrumentation. Prepares the required operational documentation, system performance notes, alarm responses, and trend reviews.
Ensures all diagnostic findings, corrective actions, repairs, control adjustments, and operational interventions are accurately and promptly documented in the work order system to maintain complete, compliant, and auditable maintenance records.

Performs full boiler annual inspections and repairs including shutdown and lockout/tagout, isolation of steam and fuel systems, internal cleaning of water and fire side surfaces, tube punching, sight glass and float cleaning, refractory repairs, gasket replacement, burner cleaning, auxiliary water cutoff servicing, confined space entry, and post inspection restoration for safe restart.
Conducts system repairs including valve replacements, piping repairs, actuator replacements, transmission work, mechanical seal replacement, pump overhauls, tower fan repairs, motor alignments, flow meter calibrations, sensor replacements, pneumatic and electronic valve rebuilding, and VFD board/component repairs.
Performs chemical testing for sulfate, phosphate, and amines; adjusts feed rates per VHA directives; supports steam quality verification with SPS and the Water Safety Commission. Maintains and repairs water softener systems, chemical injection systems, and domestic water distribution components.
Performs repairs, troubleshooting, and maintenance on the fuel distribution systems supporting boilers and generators, including actuators, float controls, sensors, pumps, motors, mechanical seals, pressure regulators, and underground storage tank monitoring systems. Maintains proper fuel levels in underground tanks by transferring fuel to maintain required 85% capacity during deliveries and ensures generator day tanks remain at mandated 80% levels.
Conducts twice daily generator inspections and monthly checks of generator batteries, including electrolyte levels, resistance/capacity testing, charger operation verification, and documentation per NFPA 110/70B.
