Job Summary

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

Key Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this position is: to remove, install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, and rebuild multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions.

The worker in this career field must demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance on one or more complete electronic integrated systems associated with the assigned aircraft and/or maintenance on automatic flight control systems, instrument systems, environmental systems, radar, communications, and navigation systems. Serves as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) providing training to assigned personnel in the accomplishment of tasks herein.

DUTIES: DUTY 1: Removes, installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, aligns, calibrates, and rebuilds multi-system avionics complexes consisting of multiple completely integrated electronic avionics systems where the complex accomplishes a number of major functions.

Systems are composed of a number of individual subsystems (i.e., radar, power control, environmental, computers, gyro or inertia sensing units, launching control units, etc.) which are linked together and interrelated so that their combined functions accomplish a specific objective and comprise a complete integrated system. DUTY 2: Performs pretest, operational (functional), or final testing of electronic systems, components, or subassemblies.

Troubleshoots operational malfunctions and analyzes system performance utilizing aircrew debrief data, Technical Orders, schematic and wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, data analysis, common and system-specific test equipment and built in system tests. DUTY 3: Advises engineering personnel on the operation and maintenance effects of proposed Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) and/or modifications on new or existing equipment.

Reviews and analyzes maintenance data; determines if criteria are sufficient to provide adequate test, troubleshooting and repair procedures; devises and recommends tests, procedural changes, or data corrections. DUTY 4: Utilizes safety practices and tool control procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work area.

Strictly adheres to safety procedures and regulations and promptly reports any observed or identified violations in accordance with established guidelines. Prepares/executes effective training plans to maximize training. Complies with required instruction, guidance and/or training and provides instruction, guidance and training to others while maintaining personal qualifications.

DUTY 5: Documents/recommends methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting hardware and software malfunctions, initiates material deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data, and assists in design changes as necessary. May include aircrew debriefing to determine the nature of system malfunctions. Complies with security procedures, regulations and policies.

Member will be required to hold an appropriate security clearance and/or Secure Internet Protocol Router (SIPR) account to perform normal day-to-day duties. Member must complete all required and recurring training for security practices. Member maybe required to carry/handle/secure classified material and/or equipment.
