Job Summary

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 6), Richmond VA Medical Center, Facilities Management, Electric Section, Richmond, Virginia. The primary duties of the position involve fabricating, overhauling, modifying, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining ground, airborne, and marine electronic equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Duties included but not limited to the following: Installs, modifies overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs complex electronic components which require knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices.

Examples of systems at this degree of complexity are: Basic and hybrid computer/ IT software controlled fire alarm systems(IT: the application of computers and telecommunication equipment t to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data) which contains complex address le devices and circuits designed to accomplish multiple functions such as detection of heat, smoke and/or ionization of particles related to early stages of combustion, movement of water in the sprinkler system and transmits signals to alert units that communicate fire department response, local chime, voice annunciation, Air Handler shutdown and door release activation, Computer software controlled hybrid access control I systems including serial, serial main and sub controllers, Two- way computer/I software controlled nurse call systems (visual lights, audible chime and voice annunciation), Computer/IT software controlled code blue system including report servers a d network backbone, computer software controlled Medical Gas Alarm systems, MATV Distribution System including head end design and installation, Radio Entertainment distribution system, Public Address /intercom systems, operation and installation of various types of fixed and /or portable audiovisual (AV) and software controlled Video Tele-Conference (VTC) equipment in support of briefings and presentations to or by Directors, Project Managers, Key Staff officials and others.

Presentations include conferences, lectures, speeches, and other custom-type presentations. Installs and operates systems at locations to include computers, multiple projectors, electronic projection screens, multiple microphone sound systems, audio mixing, video and VTC equipment. Perform operator maintenance on audio-visual equipment.

Works on microwaves, complex electronic beds with patient percussion rotation therapy, medical scales, software based computer nurse call interface; Computer software controlled camera systems including PTZ control, fiber optic transmitters, receivers, multiple DVRs, and Police intrusion alarms, repair and maintenance of patient lifts, repair, installation, and maintenance of low voltage TVs, with breath call features for patients with disabilities using the latest rehabilitation engineering equipment and computer touch screen software interface, etc.

Maintain several external buildings on site including Bldg. 507, 508 (COOP) 509, 511 (Yellow Clinic), 512 (Fisher House), 513 (Sleep Lab), and 514 (Polytrauma Center). Maintain three (3) external Community Based Outpatient Clinics located CBOC) in Charlottesville, Fredericksburg and Emporia. Diagnose problems quickly and make repairs, adjustments and alignments with a minimum of delay. Designs and fabricates special test equipment.

Coordinate the work assignments and provide technical assistance to other employees or contractors. Coordinate with technical and professional personnel on matters affecting operation specifications or modifications to equipment or systems.
