This position is located within the Engineering Service at the VA San Diego Healthcare System. The primary purpose of the position is to install modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex electronics equipment and complete operational systems consisting of numerous complex integral components which require knowledge of a wide range of electronics principles and practices.

Clear and Timely Communication: Applicants will receive clear communication at key milestones, including referral, tentative offer, and onboarding instructions.
After meeting pre-employment requirements, candidates will receive a final job offer and start date. Onboarding tasks may continue after starting, with HR ensuring timely completion for a smooth transition into VA service. If selected, applicants should be prepared to come onboard within 30 days of the announcement closing.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and/or overhauls, modifies, tests, and calibrates a variety of electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Deciphers data from instrumentation and electrical measuring devices. Uses a variety of reference material and applies a comprehensive knowledge of operating principles to use a full range of tools typical to the electronic and electrical trades.
Ability to utilize electronic theory and electrical practices to a wide variety of complex systems, such as the nurse call network, television and electrical utility systems. Interprets drawings, specifications and schematics of complete systems. Troubleshoots the system from schematic, following signal paths through a complex path of components, assemblies, and subassemblies. Skill in interpretation of one line diagrams of the power distribution network.
Skill in the use of the tools of the trade and ability to extend the use of conventional tools and test equipment when aged components or modifications of circuits require improvisation.
