This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Facility Operations Division, Elevator Section. The Elevator Mechanic (Electronics) Supervisor oversees the maintenance and repair operations of elevators, escalators and other electronically controlled systems for the Senate Office Buildings.
TOUR OF DUTY: Monday-Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with overlap of supervision of evening shift. Major Duties: Serves as an Elevator Mechanic (Electronics) Supervisor. Ensures that elevators and escalators are maintained, inspected and tested to ASME 17.1, Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. Oversees repairs and maintenance of electronically controlled equipment such as but not limited to roll-up doors and trash cart lifts. Plans the use of subordinate workers' equipment, facilities and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Establishes deadlines, priorities and work sequences and plans work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level management. As required, coordinates work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors. Determines the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Determines how many assignments can be done concurrently, which ones can be delayed and the number and types of employees needed; considering skills, personnel, material and equipment that is available and required. Redirects individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work and/or equipment failure. Ensures all employees are up to date on entrapment procedures and emergency protocols. Informs the deputy to the assistant superintendent or assistant superintendent of the need to revise work schedules and re-estimates labor and other resources. Participates with the deputy assistant superintendent or assistant superintendent in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, elevator contract requirements, staffing needs, estimates and recommendations as to scheduling projected work. May be required to take contractor officer representative (COR) training and be an active COR on elevator/electronically controlled equipment related contracts. Assigns work to employees and provides technical direction and/or assistance in accomplishing the work. Observes work in progress, investigates work related problems (e.g., excessive costs, low productivity, workload imbalance and acquisition or development of specialized tools, etc.), and determines causes. Implements corrective actions to resolve work problems. Recommends acquisition of specialized equipment and tools. Resolves staffing and work operations problems. Establishes or revises standard operating procedures for the work operation. Plans and establishes leave schedules. Interviews candidates for vacancies and recommends employees for promotion or reassignments. Counsels' employees on problems and adjust informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives. Initiates proposals for formal disciplinary action as needed. Promotes positive work environment and the participation of employees in such programs as the Suggestion Program. Maintains production reports and records. Performs administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates. Assigns duties and evaluates performance. Assists in managing the budget and workload. Develops performance requirements for subordinates and ensures a mutual understanding of the performance standards. Resolves complaints and grievances. Provides leadership to ensure support for equal employment opportunity (EEO) goals and requirements. The incumbent is responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Office of Congressional Workplace Rights, and AOC's safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or in a classroom setting, to ensure all direct reports know how to use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Routinely checks to verify that subordinates are using all required PPE. Performs other related duties as assigned.
