This position is located in Region Three / Mitigation Division.The ideal candidate for this position will have experience applying expert emergency management knowledge and skill to an extensive range of mitigation issues, many of which are complex, controversial, and precedent setting.
What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as a senior level regional functional expert in hazard mitigation area. You will manage and direct regional delivery of hazard mitigation operations before, during, and/or after an event, incident or disaster.
Typical assignments include: Working risk reduction through regulations, local ordinances, land use and building practices, and mitigation projects that reduce or eliminate long-term risk from hazards and their effects.
Engaging risk reduction programs such as the National Flood Insurance Program, Community Rating System(CRS), Community Assistance Program- State Support Services Element (CAP-SSSE), Risk Map, Building Science, and Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Grant programs. Providing subject matter expertise to aid communities to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations, which will mitigate the effects of flooding on new and improved structures.
Reviewing floodplain management regulations for compliance. What else do I need to know? Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
