EIAs review and interpret a wide range of technical regulatory data and documents within their assigned areas of responsibility. EIAs inform Commission decision making by developing well-supported recommendations and to address regulatory issues, clearly communicating technical findings and implications both orally and in writing. In OERA, EIAs contribute to the Commission's mission by supporting oversight of wholesale energy markets.

At the GS-7/9 levels, EIAs develop foundational analytical skills and apply them to help identify market issues, assess compliance with Commission rules and regulations, and assist in detecting and addressing potential market manipulation or other non-compliance concerns.

EIAs gather, organize, and assist in analyzing information from jurisdictional companies and the relevant natural gas, oil, and electric markets in support of surveillance, audits, and investigations, while building proficiency in the Commission's regulatory framework and enforcement processes.

In OTRE, EIAs at this level support the Commission's work on electric and natural gas regulatory matters by analyzing data, regulatory filings, rulemakings and other industry documents to ensure consistency with applicable regulatory principles and Commission policies. EIAs perform quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify emerging issues and implications for the Commission's jurisdictional energy markets and infrastructure.

EIAs engage directly with electric utilities and natural gas pipeline companies and collaborate with stakeholders and internal specialists to prepare and present reports, develop recommendations to support team leaders and supervisors, and organize energy-specific conferences that inform the Commission, stakeholders and the public.
