The Engineering Technician is assigned to the Engineering Section of the Facilities Management Service at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center and is under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Healthcare Engineer. The position performs a variety of work requiring application of extensive technical knowledge involving established engineering methods, procedures, techniques, and practices.
The duties of the Engineering Technician consist of but are not limited to the following: Assist consulting architects and engineers with design of competitively bid construction and maintenance and repair work. Provide consultants access to existing as built drawings, field measurements, construction standards, and construction specifications relevant to the project scope.
Serve as Contracting Officer's Representative, inspecting competitively bid construction, maintenance, and repair construction projects to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications. Submit project applications and makes project tracking report updates into the appropriate database. Review and/or prepare construction documents and detailed cost estimates for competitively bid construction projects and maintenance repair work.
Work with General Contractor to resolve problems that arise due to design errors or differing site conditions. Evaluate Architect and Engineer design and construction projects for capitalization of project costs. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
