This vacancy is for a GS-0028-9, Environmental Protection Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, BASE PORTSMOUTH FACILITIES ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT -F in PORTSMOUTH, Virginia.
You will serve as an Environmental Protection Specialist and be responsible for assisting with the development, execution, and sustainment / continual improvement of the unit environmental management program.
The position ensures environmental program activities and operations precisely and proactively comply with applicable laws, statutes, regulations, Executive Orders (EOs), and Departmental / Agency directives, instructions, and policies; are protective of the natural, cultural, and human environments; and contribute to a safe and healthful workplace. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
Typical work assignments include: Implementating and managementing of comprehensive environmental compliance programs, including hazardous waste/materials (HAZWASTE/HAZMAT). Designing and delivering environmental training curriculum for Base personnel, to ensure full compliance with all state and federal regulatory standards Communicating with Federal, state and local regulatory officials.
Generating reports on spills, maintains HAZMAT and HAZWASTE quantities/manifests, and prepares reports for State and Federal regulators. Conducting comprehensive environmental audits and site inspections to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
