Job Summary

This position is located within the Environmental Management of the Nebraska-Western Iowa VA Health Care System. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives.

Tours of duty may vary depending on the internal department needs with weekdays, weekends, day and evening shift schedules.

Key Responsibilities

Duties for the position include: Assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis. Reorganizing work schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner. Coordinating work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other.

Responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned. Assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision. Communicating with the Veterans and visitors to assure services are meeting expectations and to gather firsthand feedback on services performed.

Planning daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities. Training staff and ensuring that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel. Providing on-the job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate.

Scheduling regular meetings with staff to make them aware of new procedures or directives. Keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies. Supervising the daily distribution of uniforms and textiles to the designated areas and persons and ensuring record keeping is timely and accurate.

Working independently following up on all work assignments to ensure that established procedures, work assignments and safety standards are being properly applied and adjusting as necessary. Initiating and nurturing equal opportunity among their subordinates regardless of age, sex, color, race, religion, national origin, or non-disqualifying physical or mental handicap.

Establishing and ensuring adherence to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by higher level supervisors. Following customary work cycles and sequences in planning work assignments. Coordinating work through subordinate in accordance with priority. Determining methods and resources necessary to accomplish the assigned tasks.

Responsible for the maintenance, storage and safeguard of housekeeping tools, equipment, materials, and supplies for his/her area of assignment. Tracking and reporting progress on work assignments and requesting authority to adjust worker assignments and to use overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules. Reassigning personnel supervised, and coordinating work among workers and other supervisors to maintain work progress and to meet schedules.

Implementing corrective action to solve problems as needed. Supporting and communicating management programs to their subordinates. Recommending promotion or reassignment, performance ratings, training, disciplinary actions, changes in performance standards, and the suitable applicants for vacancies. Work Schedule: Saturday - Tuesday 12:00am (midnight) to 10:30am. Telework: Not eligible for Telework. Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
