This position is located in the Midshipmen Repair Tailor Shop, part of the US Naval Academy's Non-Appropriated Fund Instrumentality (NAFI), Naval Academy Business Services Division (NABSD), Annapolis, MD. The Fabric Worker is occasionally required to work in alternative work spaces. Incumbent alters garments, and replaces parts that are damaged.
Incumbent lets out or takes in side seams, hems pants and skirts, attaches insignia, takes part in manufacturing brigade flags, and removes sleeve lace.
Lets-out or takes-in garments., and replaces parts that are damaged. Tapers skirts, trousers and shirts. Replaces zippers in pants and skirts; hems jacket and coat sleeves, opens and prepares sleeves for striping lace application, then closes and re-sets sleeve length. Sews Velcro on uniforms as needed, and on various patches for customers.
Sews final seams on prepared Brigade Flags; sews insignias on clothing; receives garments during Plebe issues and during Summer striping collection. Uses various electrical machines to include industrial straight stich, blind stitch, and pinking machines to achieve desired results. Keeps work area clean and obeys all safety regulations. Physical effort includes standing, sitting for long periods of time; stooping, bending, kneeling; lifting up to 10 pounds.
