OIAD is seeking a Financial Economist. As a Financial Economist, you will be part of a team that has a track record of strong empirical research abilities using a variety of methodologies (including primary data collection), and excellent communication skills.
The position requires interest in investor behavior and decision-making, desire to produce applied research that informs policy, as well as the ability to collaborate within scientific research teams and with other groups of individuals.
In this role as a Financial Economist, you will be responsible for: Analyzing problems that investors face with financial service providers or investment products, and analyzing the potential impact on investors of proposed regulations of the Commission and proposed rules of self-regulatory organizations, consistent with OIAD's statutory mission.
Designing and implementing research using a combination of empirical methodologies, including analysis of nationally representative survey data, investor testing, and qualitative interviews, with a particular focus on primary data collection. Supporting economic analysis of SEC rulemakings as needed, such as by designing and delivering custom research projects designed to inform policy questions facing the SEC.
Exhibiting exemplary collaboration and teamwork skills by working on a multidisciplinary scientific team (including with individuals who have training outside of economics and finance) to conduct research regarding investor behavior and/or regulated entities. Organizing data collection and research processes by tracking project tasks and delivering updates to senior OIAD staff.
Co-authoring academic or policy papers broadly related to issues relevant to investor behavior, investor testing, or the overall mission of OIAD.
