The primary purpose of this position, Firefighter (Hazardous Materials Technician), GS-0081-07, is to serve as a Firefighter assigned to a crew engaged in airfield, structural firefighting, crash-rescue, and HAZMAT/Driver Operator and to respond to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release.
-Perform hazard and risk assessment and conducts a complete incident analysis. -Perform crash-rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic or support operations where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high and potential for becoming destructive is great. -Perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities, which may include large multistoried buildings, industrial areas, and/or base storage facilities.
-Perform rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility. -Maintain firefighting equipment and fire station facilities.
This position is a developmental GS-05 Target GS-07 position. This position may be filled at any grade level. Individual selected may be promoted without further competition, upon meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Starting salary indicated on this vacancy announcement is for the (GS-05).
Attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities is required before promotion to the next higher grade and is dependent on demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the next higher grade level, meeting all regulatory requirements, and recommendation for promotion by the supervisor. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
This position may be subject to a formalized training program and pay retention of 150% of the maximum rate of the basic pay is authorized for candidates requesting a Voluntary Change to lower Grade. Military Spouse candidates exercising their preference will be placed at the full performance level, if considered to be best qualified and selected.
