FUL-Interdisciplinary GIS Specialist (Temporary)

Job Summary

This position is located in the Branch of Terrestrial Wildlife within the Resource Management and Science Division of Yosemite National Park. Government Housing MAY be available. This is a temporary position expected to last 1 year but may be extended up to a maximum of two years based on agency needs and potential funding.

Major Duties

Some of the major duties include, but are not limited to: Assists Geographic Information System (GIS) Coordinator in the management and modernization of the park's Enterprise GIS. Develops and updates scripts for database management, backups, QAQC, and publishing of geospatial data. Plans and tests the implementation of new data management protocols and workflows. Edits, maintains, and utilizes spatial and tabular data. Implements regional and national data standards. Provides GIS support and responds to GIS requests from a variety of GIS users and non-GIS users. Creates cartographic products, designs geodatabases, sets up mobile data collection projects, performs spatial analyses, and troubleshoots problems with scripts, software, and procedures. Updates documentation, metadata, and guidance. Trains staff in the use of mobile data collection devices and high accuracy mapping with external GNSS receivers. Occasionally performs field work in remote environments to generate new or verify ("ground- truth") mapped information, using standard resources, field sampling, and scientific methods.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
