General Equipment Mechanic

Job Summary

You will serve as a General Equipment Mechanic with National Park Service. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel occasionally within the park on a daily basis. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Major Duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Assists with overhauls and repairs to light heavy equipment. This may include end loaders, motor graders, dump trucks, power generators, snow removal equipment. Performs overhauls and repairs to smaller gasoline and diesel powered equipment. This includes pickup trucks, vans, and chain saws, weed wackers, small tractors and attachments. Provides routine servicing to all the above vehicles and equipment using guidelines provided in equipment service manuals. May assist with, or prepare, monthly reports, requisitions for supplies and parts, job reports and vehicle labor and parts forms. Prepares reports using the computer using such programs as Word, Excel, and the FMSS programs. The incumbent must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one year from the time of employment (EOD)

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.
