This position is under the VA Loma Linda Healthcare System, Environmental Management Service. Primary function of the incumbent is to perform a sequence of tasks that results in a clean, safe and sanitary environment for visitors, patients, and employees throughout the facility.
Staff assigned to this position will be assigned to the safe removal and containment of bio-hazardous waste and pickup, bundling, and movement of all recyclable materials throughout all areas of the facility.
Duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for the movement and safe transport of various types of bio-hazardous and medical wastes collections from facility services Incumbent must be able to effectively wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when handling any type of waste Ensure that all bio-hazardous and medical waste are placed into appropriate containers and made ready for pickup by contractor prior to end of shift Must transport bio-hazardous and medical waste in approved containers using the double-bag process Signs all manifests for bio-hazardous/medical wastes, compactor and sharps pick up provided through contract services and delivers copies to Environmental Management Service, immediate Supervisor, Work Leader, or administrative personnel for proper documentation and receipt of service Train staff when required on the handling of bio-hazardous and medical waste Inspect containers daily to ensure they are cleaned with approved germicidal/disinfectant and are not compromised prior to transport and replacement in soiled utility rooms Ensuring bio-hazardous containment area is cleaned daily and that all containers are secured properly by end of shift Reports to immediate supervisor any and all deficiencies in actual work area for immediate correction and /or placement of electronic work order Install/replace sharps containers when and where required throughout facility Assist service leadership with identifying required signage for areas which hold bio-hazardous and medical wastes Assist as needed with the exchange of sharps and regulated wastes containers to ensure compliance to regulations and standards Must complete and maintain any Regulated Medical Waste training required by the service Works daily with hydraulic cardboard baler Works closely with the GEMS Coordinator on initiatives and ways of enhancing the Recycling Program Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 0700-1530 PST Position Description Title/PD#: Hazardous Waste Disposer/PD115350 Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized Not Authorized
