Serves as a Health Promotion Specialist within the Navajo Area Indian Health Service (IHS) to raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level. Develops and implements community wellness programs, monitors health information, and promotes healthy lifestyles through prevention, education, collaboration, and community engagement. Coordinates community health assessments and information-gathering activities, including surveys, focus groups, interviews, and other methods used to identify health priorities and evaluate outreach efforts. Develops and delivers health education and outreach materials and activities, including presentations, reports, posters, pamphlets, media products, and community feedback sessions.
Provides training, consultation, and technical assistance to community health workers, clinical staff, educators, tribal programs, and other partners supporting health promotion and community development initiatives. Establishes and maintains collaborative partnerships with community, Tribal, Federal, State, school, healthcare, and other organizations and facilitates community forums and stakeholder input to identify and address local health priorities.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
