Job Summary

Are you an experienced science policy professional passionate about advancing vision and eye-related biomedical research? We seek a Health Science Policy Officer with expertise in vision science to lead science policy analysis, strategic planning, portfolio evaluation, and legislative activities that advance NEI's mission and support extramural research programs.

In your resume, describe your experience with science policy, strategic planning, portfolio analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development, analysis, and evaluation of science policy, strategic initiatives, and programs that support the National Eye Institute's (NEI) mission and support its vision-related biomedical research portfolio. Analyze scientific, programmatic, and portfolio data to identify vision research priorities, evaluate program effectiveness, and provide evidence-based recommendations to senior leadership.

Advise leadership on legislative, regulatory, and policy issues by evaluating the impact of proposed legislation, congressional inquiries, audits, and federal initiatives on vision research programs. Develop executive briefings, policy analyses, reports, and recommendations that inform strategic planning, resource allocation, and organizational decision-making for vision research.

Coordinate science policy activities related to extramural vision research programs, including funding opportunity development, research portfolio reporting, oversee the concept development of nascent vision and eye-health related programs, and cross-cutting strategic initiatives.

Represent NEI in NIH, HHS, and interagency working groups and collaborate with federal agencies, academic institutions, professional organizations, and other stakeholders to advance shared scientific and public health goals. Serve as a senior advisor on emerging vision research, scientific, public health, and vision science policy issues by anticipating trends, identifying opportunities, and recommending strategies that advance the Institute's mission.
