Job Summary

This position serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ft. Thompson Service Unit in Fort Thompson, SD, which is part of the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service (GPAIHS). The primary purpose of the position directs the total health care delivery system of the service unit and is fully accountable for managing all health care activities. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Major Duties

Monitors the service unit programs and evaluates the planning process. Responsible for maintaining standards and accreditation status. Manages both clinical and administrative subordinate managers and supervisors. Delegates authority to and provides general program direction to subordinate service chiefs on various administrative matters. Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication with recognized leaders of tribes served within the service unit area. Works closely with Native Boards of Health and Native American councils to promote involvement in the development of the service unit plans and health care programs.

Education
