The Health System Specialist (HSS) position is located in the Office of Associate Director for Patient Care Service (ADPCS) at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS). The HSS applies knowledge of health care management to coordinating and evaluating the delivery of health care services to Veterans. The HSS collaborates with service chiefs, administrative support, and members of TVHS' Executive Leadership Team, VISN and VACO staff in the implementation of a complex health care delivery system.
VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) is an integrated tertiary health care system comprised of two hospitals, the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro and the Nashville VA Medical Center, as well as 21 outpatient clinics located in middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. TVHS provides ambulatory care, primary care, and secondary care in acute medicine and surgery, specialized tertiary care, transplant services, spinal cord injury outpatient care, and a full range of extended care and mental health services. The major duties of this position include but are not limited to: Providing continuity between TVHS' Services(s) Program activities; researching and interpreting internal and external policies, directives, survey standards and regulatory requirements. Monitoring service activities including review and reporting of all workload statistics and program functions. Ensuring accurate identification, reporting, tracking, and trending of services' resource utilization; adjust operations and resources as needed. Preparing correspondence to local and national inquiries by collecting and analyzing information and preparing responses in proper format for final signature. Collecting data from multiple sources ensuring precise and accurate summaries are provided for reporting and decision-making. Coordinating administrative service needs to ensure timely completion and results: investigations, projects, service changes and implementations, annual evaluations, etc. Advising and assisting with plan, organization, development, direction and evaluation of all operations and programs under the supervision the Associate Director for Patients Care Services. Collaborating with Patient Advocates in the successful resolution of patient complaints. Facilitating design of processes that promote the establishment of effective monitoring and evaluation of organization performances. Coordinating and preparing Human Resource actions and service organizational chart; initiation and completion of Leaf requests related to resource management requests. Participating in annual budget for Nursing services for the Associate Director for Patient Care Services Serving on committees and task groups as requested. Facilitator for ADPCS housed executive committees and publications to include Medical Center Policies (MCPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Coordinating equipment purchases based on fund availability and needs of service; works collaboratively with Logistics service to ensure appropriate products and service.
