Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking to fill a full-time Health Technician position at the Dodge City, KS Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC)!
Duties of this position includes but not limited to: Draws blood from clinic outpatients, assuring special drawing techniques and proper tubes are used and the correct amount of blond is drawn. Incumbent must be proficient in the area of phlebotomy and specimen collection. The incumbent will use the laboratory handbook as a reference.
Verifies the patient as the individual denoted on lab orders and labels all tubes with patient's name, social security number, date and time to insure proper identification. Performs clinical administrative/clerical duties supporting the health care team in the treatment of patients. Is expected to be able to perform effectively in a clinic environment and utilize a computer to complete daily assignments.
Resolves problems and complaints involving procedural issues on own initiative. Makes sound decisions independently, recognizes emergent situations and takes necessary action. Ensures all orders are completed accurately and in a timely manner while giving special consideration to all written orders of an emergent/urgent nature. Participates in clinic conferences by presenting information obtained through observations of patients' physical and emotional status.
Observes, reports and records in correct format changes in patients' condition, i.e., vital signs, check dressing, patient's color and skin condition; determining of airway patency and/or need for suctioning and drainage from any tubes. Performs EKGs. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 0700-1530 Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
