Job Summary

This position is located in the Branch of Nursing Services at Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock Service Unit, Shiprock, New Mexico. The position serves as a Health Technician supporting various hospital units and provides patient transport services. Responsibilities include operating motor vehicles to safely transport patients, passengers, and supplies in support of nursing and hospital operations.

A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Key Responsibilities

Provides emergency support, including patient transfers, sitter duties, infection control, patient education, documentation, and maintaining a safe, clean clinical environment. Transports patients, supplies, and equipment throughout the facility and assists with admissions, discharges, room preparation, and safe patient movement using proper body mechanics.

Obtains and documents vital signs, EKGs, specimens, intake/output, and immunization needs; performs waived testing and noninvasive monitoring, identifies abnormal findings, and promptly reports concerns to professional staff.

Operates ambulances and government vehicles for inter-facility, airport, and patient transports; ensures passenger safety and comfort, follows traffic and safety regulations, navigates reservation roads and off-highway routes, and provides appropriate patient assistance during transport.

Performs vehicle safety inspections and preventive maintenance, reports malfunctions, refuels vehicles, maintains mileage and transport records, and completes required accident, service, repair, and patient transport documentation.
