Job Summary

This position is located within the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Office of Safety – Field Operations. The incumbent initiates civil penalty collection procedures, negotiates settlement of enforcement cases, and prepares and processes non-contested settlement agreements and consent orders on enforcement cases.

Key Responsibilities

The Highway Safety Specialist (Enforcement Program Specialist): Provides coordination, liaison, negotiation, and consultation for the federal civil penalty program within the Service Center's geographical area. Initiates civil penalty collection procedures and manages settlement agreements on Notices of Claim. Reviews and evaluates enforcement cases to ensure they meet legal sufficiency requirements.

Assists in evaluating complex cases for potential criminal investigation referral. The ideal candidate for this position is a senior-level professional, who takes pride in managing and overseeing the enhancement of program success and operations efficiency.

Requirements & Education

Education: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, public administration, hazardous materials management, or other fields related to the position.
